Redfinz started as a personal need for honest home improvement guides, and grew into one of the few places online where homeowners can find real cost breakdowns without sifting through sales pages. If you’ve ever tried to budget a patio, plan a renovation, or just understand what a contractor’s quote actually means, you know how hard it is to find straight answers. That’s the gap Redfinz was built to fill.
The Story Behind Redfinz
I didn’t start this site because I had a business plan. I started it because I got burned.
A few years back, I was getting quotes for a patio. Three different contractors. Three wildly different numbers. Not one of them could explain clearly what I was actually paying for. I spent hours searching online — and most of what I found was either too vague to be useful, or stuffed with language trying to push me toward some “free estimate” lead form.
So I started writing things down. What materials actually cost. What contractors charge per square foot in different parts of the world. What questions you should ask before signing anything. Eventually those notes turned into Redfinz.
My name is Azeem Akhtar. I’ve spent years working in home improvement, interior design, and construction, long enough to understand the difference between a quote that’s fair and one that’s designed to confuse you. I built this site because homeowners deserve straight answers, not runaround.
What Our Home Improvement Guides Actually Cover
Redfinz is a free resource for homeowners across the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa.
Every guide on this site is written to answer one thing: what does this actually cost, and what affects that cost?
We cover patios, flooring, fencing, painting, and full renovations, breaking down real prices by size, material, and country. No sponsored recommendations. No affiliate rankings disguised as advice. Just numbers and explanations you can use before you pick up the phone and call a contractor.
The cost calculators work the same way. You enter your size and location, and you get an honest ballpark, not a pitch.
According to HomeAdvisor’s 2024 True Cost Report, homeowners who research project costs beforehand pay on average 23% less than those who go in without a benchmark. That’s exactly why these guides exist.
How We Research and Write
Every article goes through the same process. We look at what materials and labour actually cost in each region, check against current market rates, and write in plain English, the kind you’d use explaining something to a friend, not the kind that makes you re-read a sentence three times.
If we’re not sure about something, we say so. If prices vary significantly by region, we show the range. We’d rather say “it depends on this” than give you one confident number that turns out wrong for your situation.
Who These Guides Are For
If you’re planning a home improvement project and want to understand costs before talking to anyone, this site is for you.
If you’ve already got quotes and something doesn’t add up this site is for you.
If you’re in the UK wondering why your patio quote looks nothing like what American sites are showing, this site is definitely for you.
We get a lot of readers who come back. That tells us we’re getting something right.
